Introduction to Yacht Racing
This is an amazing full day experience during the first half of which you will learn to crew and the second half race, high performance yachts! The experience will take place aboard a Sigma 8 metre which is fast, manoeuvrable and easy to handle - the perfect vessel for your first taste of yacht racing! During the morning you will receive a fun and action packed half day of hands on tuition during which you will get to perform all of the different roles required to crew. After a short break for lunch you will head back out to sea for an afternoon of racing; there will be up to five other identical yachts in the fleet and under the guidance of your skipper it will be down to you and your crew mates to prove that you have what it takes to make the winning difference! This day will give you a real insight in to the adrenalin fueled world of high performance yacht racing.

Your session will start with a hot drink and meeting your skipper and crew mates for the day before heading to the yacht. You will receive a full safety briefing from your skipper who will issue you with a life jacket and, if the weather requires, oil skins. It is now time to head out to sea for a morning of training and familiarisation aboard the yacht. The skipper will tailor the training to individuals so if you are completely new to sailing they will teach you the basics and if you have sailing experience they will cover more advanced techniques and racing tactics - ensuring it stays interesting for everyone! You will then return to port for some lunch, this is not included in the price but the centre has excellent relationships with local restaurants who will provide you with a quality lunch for around £10. After lunch you will head back out to sea for an afternoon of racing, you will participate in a series of short races and because all of the yachts are exactly the same the racing is both tactical and very exciting! You will finish your day back on dry land where you will be debriefed on the race results over a swift half (or three)! |
