Advanced sports course
Goal: getting to know the pre-starting procedure, getting ready for starting, choosing a better part of the regatta-area. Sailing techniques used while approaching the windward buoy, the leeward buoy, and interpretation of regatta rules.
Age: adult
Previous knowledge: having completed the beginners course, subject to testing upon arrival at school base
Theory: basic physics needed for sailing, meteorology satellite navigation, planning a cruise (course, food and water supplies), organizing the crew, night celestial navigation.
Practice: reefing and changing sails, man overboard, spinnaker /different ways of raising and lowering, leeward maneuvers, changing the spinnaker/ gennaker, starting procedure practice, night navigation, planning a route for off shore regattas, planning the guard duties, watch leader's duties, navigator's duties, mooring with the sails.
Maritime zone: the local waters of the island of Murter
Equipment: sportswear, rain suit, boots, gloves, cap, knife, flashlight
