Get the best out of two totally different worlds. From 2011 Sailing in Italy offers a unique opportunity to combine a self catering holiday in the Tuscan hills with a sailing experience along the Tuscan coast. This is the complete Italy experience and allows you to see Tuscany off the beaten track.

You can either start or finish your holiday with a stay in Borgo Antico, a two bedroom stone built village house from the 17th century situated in Lunigiana the most northern region of Tuscany, dubbed 'The land of one hundred castles', approx. 1 hour drive from Parma in the north and 30 minutes from La Spezia at the Mediterranean in the south. This virgin part of Tuscany is still undiscovered by most tourists. Small, steep roads are winding through the hilly to mountainous landscape where, in lower levels olive trees and vineyards grow. Chestnut trees dominate the forests and their fruits are used in a lot of the typical dishes of the region. Deer and wild boar inhabiting the forests make for another part of the staple diet here. This area features a wide variety of villages and towns steeped in history offering local events and activities throughout the year. It is ideal for hill walking and to explore parts of one of the medieval trade routes leading from France across the Alps deep into Italy, the Via Francegiana.
The town of Aulla is the commercial and administrative centre of the region. The Villages and towns of Villafranca, Pontremoli, Fivizzano, Bagnone und Verrucola combine a rural Italian lifestyle with modern amenities. To the south the Cinque Terre and the beautiful coastal towns of Portovenere and Lerici are ideal daytrip destinations. Half an hour drive from the house you find the magnificent city of La Spezia at the eastern end of the Italian Riviera. Headquarters for the Italian Navy it hosts 4 marinas, boasts a lovely palm tree seafront boulevard and offers a marvellous shopping experience.
Local markets and fests in all these places add to the rich colour and bustle of life in the area.
The other part of the holiday takes you on a sailing trip along the Tuscan coast including Elba and other islands. The sailing experience starts from single day excursions and can extend to several days or weeks.

The ideal combination is to spend one week in the house and a second on board Il Paradiso. You have the exclusive use of Il Paradiso a 13 meter, 3 cabin yacht which comfortably accommodates up to 6 guests. The yacht is based approx. a 2 hour drive south of Borgo Antico in the heart of the Tuscan coastline at Puntone di Scarlino in the Bay of Follonica near Punta Ala. This is one of the prime sailing areas in Italy. Sailing from here to Elba takes about 3 hours. Other islands like Giglio and the Tuscan main land offer further great sailing opportunities and beautiful places to stop and visit. A wide selection of beautiful beaches and bays, perfect for snorkelling and swimming are part of the areas’ marine and nature reserves with ample wildlife to watch including dolphins.

Crew
Mike is the skipper of Il Paradiso. He is RYA qualified and commercially endorsed. He has been sailing for years around Scotland, the south of France, the Atlantic with the Canary Islands and Madeira before coming to Italy to sail in the Mediterranean including North Africa and Malta.

Gerlinde is the hostess on Il Paradiso. She has been sailing in Scotland, Ireland and the south of France before coming to Italy. She is RYA qualified and the author of a yachting cooking book.

Both Mike and Gerlinde have extensive experience with international clients and languages spoken on board are English, German and Italian.
