Six thousand years ago the Whitsunday mountain range was cut of from the mainland by rising sea levels and the Whitsunday Islands were created. Inhabited by the Ngaro Aboriginies when Captain Cook discovered them in 1770, many of the islands are still uninhabited and the only people on the beaches have swam there from their yacht. Sailing this heaven on earth is the only way to discover the instant appeal of these dense green islands with their spectacular sandy shores.

The aim of the course is to introduce the complete beginner to cruising under sail, thereby enabling them to be an active crew member. This will be achieved having completed 5 days, 100 miles at sea in tidal waters and 4 night hours.

This is the perfect stepping stone for anyone wanting to climb aboard and have the freedom to be able to set sail in the stunning seas that await you in some of the world's most mesmerising countries. Sunsail offer this course at all of our worldwide bases within this brochure and is available for adults and children aged 8 years and over, as well as a family course and ladies only too!

Although you have the option to familiarise yourself with the basics of yacht sailing prior to this RYA course, it is not a requirement that you have any previous sailing experience. After this course, you will have sound knowledge and understanding of the yacht, including basic rope work, mooring up and casting off as well as gain confidence under sail and under power.

On completion of the Competent Crew course you will be able to set sail on any of our Level 0 Easy Flotillas.
